About the Customer

TFT Consultants are a building consultancy managing projects across a range of residential and commercial properties.

They appointed DSquared to deliver works at Arundel House, a multi-occupancy residential building requiring improved fire protection during refurbishment works.

The Challenge

Working within an occupied block of flats meant access had to be arranged with individual residents, which proved difficult across multiple properties.

Despite scheduling access in advance, entry to a number of flats was delayed or rescheduled, requiring the programme to be continually adjusted.

At the same time, the installation had to be completed safely inside people’s homes, while maintaining fire protection throughout the building.

The Solution

A wireless L5 fire alarm system was used to allow fast installation within individual flats, without the need for extensive cabling.

This made it easier to adapt the installation as access became available and helped reduce disruption to residents.

Detection was positioned within flats to provide effective coverage, with sounders installed to ensure clear alerts throughout each property. The system was supported by new power supplies and linked back to the main fire alarm setup, ensuring consistent coverage across the building.

All works were tested and handed over with the relevant documentation.

The Results

• Fire alarm coverage provided within 48 occupied flats
• Installation successfully coordinated across 48 occupied flats
• Disruption kept to a minimum through use of wireless technology
• Fully tested and handed over with documentation
