The Challenge
When we arrived, the unit was empty but still configured for the previous tenant. We had to strip out the old systems and prepare the site quickly — the client’s move-in date was approaching fast, and their insurance provider required a compliant fire and security system in place before cover could begin.
From first site visit to completion, we had just 4 weeks to deliver a full design, install, commission and handover.
An unexpected hurdle appeared early: asbestos. While surveying cable routes, we identified contaminated areas. Thanks to our strong relationship with our licensed asbestos partner, they were on-site within 2 working days to safely drill all required fixings and provide a clean bill of health — keeping the project on track.
🧱 Why Asbestos Matters: Asbestos fibres, when disturbed, can cause fatal diseases including mesothelioma and lung cancer. Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, any intrusive work must be risk-assessed and carried out by a licensed contractor.
The Solution
Once the system design and drawings were approved by the client, we mobilised the next day with a team of four engineers, and because D Squared are BAFE-accredited for fire and emergency lighting, the client had complete confidence in our design and installation approach.

We also installed CCTV to provide overnight visibility of the site, and the robotic machinery, allowing remote checks and automatic fault alerts — a valuable addition for the client’s unmanned operations.
In addition we had designed and installed access control with intruder alarms included, to ensure the client knew who was in the building, and more importantly who was trying to get into the building out of hours. Everything was designed and commissioned within the timelines set out.
The Results
We delivered the full system on time and to specification, allowing Callatech to move in as scheduled with their insurance requirements met. A few post-occupancy tweaks were handled quickly as the client settled into the new space.
