D Squared's Charity Work
In early 2024, D Squared Electrical Services sought to give back to the community during a quieter period. Collaborating with Sparks Community Centre, a charity dedicated to supporting marginalised individuals, we contributed to the creation of a new podcast studio, enhancing their outreach and revenue capabilities.
Our Dream
Portsmouth has been our place of work, and where a lot of the employees of D Squared live, and we wanted to give something back.

Why Sparks's?
At SPARK, they welcome anyone who feels pushed aside or overlooked by society, whether that’s because of illness, disability, redundancy, lack of qualifications or any other reason.
We meet people, wherever they are in life, without judgement, providing a space for people to share a cup of tea and a cake, gain skills and purpose through volunteering, and access training towards regaining confidence and a sense of belonging in society.
SPARK operates on a pay-what-you-can-afford basis along with donations.
The Challenge
Sparks Community Centre aimed to establish a podcast studio to amplify their message and generate income through rentals. The project required comprehensive electrical work, including lighting, emergency lighting, and power installations, all within a six-week timeframe.
This was a interesting project as different contractors had to pull together to get this completed within a small time frame. We also had to take over the electrical system, whilst keeping the rest of the site live.
This was also the first project we gave to our recently fully qualified Ryan, who we have trained from a first year apprentice.
The Solution
Partnering with GHS Group, Nexus Fire, Airtight Noise Check, and Dwell Designs, D Squared provided all necessary electrical services. Our team also relocated sockets to accommodate new seating areas, ensuring the space was both functional and welcoming.
We all worked together, and kept to the drawings that others had designed, and added a few bits we felt were necessary. This was Ryan Lawences first job from start to finsih on his own, and we were really proud of his results. He started as an apprentice at D Squared so to see how far he has come is amazing.
"Respectful, and kind and they do the work professionally. They work with others really well always putting customers first and making sure that the project remains their focus to finish on time. Absolutely fantastic, definitely would recommend." - Becki Simmons- Owner of Spark Community Space.
The Results
The project was completed on time, resulting in a fully operational podcast studio. Sparks has since launched “Proper Cuppa Tea,” reaching their tenth episode, and has successfully rented the space to others, generating additional income to support their mission.
We were pleased with the end results, and continue to support them where we can.
