Results

Everyone was very happy with the results, and we returned to site to assist with further scene setup. This meant there were options for different events.

About our client.

The Sky Café at Spinnaker Tower sought to revamp its ambiance and functionality. D Squared Electrical Services delivered a comprehensive electrical and lighting solution, aligning with the client’s vision and ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

The Challenge

The project began with the isolation and removal of existing floor socket boxes. As the scope expanded, challenges included rerouting services behind the bar, installing new circuit cabling from the upstairs plant room to the riser cupboard, and adapting fixed wiring for a new lighting scheme. Coordinating with other trades and adhering to tight deadlines added complexity to the endeavour.

The Solution

D Squared’s team conducted thorough investigations and developed a phased plan to address the evolving requirements. Key actions included:

Designing and installing new lighting schemes with remote control and scene selection capabilities.
Implementing LED strips for bar shelving and ceiling lighting with gold fittings and blue LED accents.
Upgrading emergency lighting systems to comply with current regulations.
Installing USB charging sockets for enhanced customer convenience.

The team sourced and supplied lighting fixtures through Hacel Lighting, ensuring quality and aesthetic alignment. Leaning on our site experience, and qualifications we designed the systems required, submitted them for approval and then installed and commissioned the systems.

Interesting Fact - Gunwarf was originally built in 1706, as part of the Navy's construction work.

The Results

The project was executed in two phases to accommodate public access during peak periods. The initial phase involved investigations and preliminary installations by two engineers. The final fit-out saw a team of six electricians complete the lighting installations and system commissioning within the stipulated timeframe.

Post-completion, D Squared provided staff training on operating the new lighting system and accessing the scene adjustment portal. An additional site visit ensured optimal scene setup, culminating in a satisfied client and a transformed Sky Café.
